Israel releases former military prosecutor under house arrest

Israeli authorities released former military prosecutor Eyal Tomer Yerushalmi on Friday, placing her under house arrest. This development comes five days after her disappearance and a week after her resignation and admission to last year's video leak, which caused a stir. A judge ordered her release on bail of 20,000 shekels (about $6,000) and placed her under house arrest for 10 days. She is also prohibited from contacting any other person involved in the case for 55 days. Authorities suspect Tomer Yerushalmi of fraud, breach of trust, abuse of office, and obstructing justice. The case is related to a video from last year showing Israeli soldiers abusing a Palestinian detainee. Tomer Yerushalmi was arrested on Sunday evening after going missing near the coast of Tel Aviv for several hours. During the search, law enforcement officials were unable to locate her phone, which led to speculation that she had attempted suicide. The phone was found on Friday on a northern beach of the city.
